Council 75 is lending its support to the effort to put a corporate "kicker"
reform measure on the ballot.
For more than
a decade, teachers, parents, and community members have talked about the need
to reform Oregon's corporate kicker law so that we're putting money where it
matters, rather than sending it to large, out-of-state corporations.
The corporate
kicker is a big tax break that is triggered when the state brings in more in
taxes than economists were expecting. Instead of investing that money in our
schools, we give most of it away to profitable corporations headquartered
outside of Oregon.
"We're excited to join a broad coalition — led by Our Oregon — to
support a historic ballot initiative that will reform the
corporate kicker by putting those dollars back into K-12 classrooms,
which in turn will help the overall state budget," says Council 75 Political
Coordinator Eva Rippeteau. "It's the next step in a larger conversation about
finally investing in Oregon's priorities. But to make the ballot, we're going
to need our members' help."
¥ Do you want to act now to help get more money into our
local schools so we can lower class sizes and stop school closures?
¥ Do you want to stop sending corporate kicker funds
to large, out-of-state corporations?
