Aflac open enrollment deadline pending for city, child care and NLRB members
Updated On: Jun 07, 2012

Aflac offers insurance programs specially negotiated by AFSCME for Council 75 members

Oregon AFSCME has partnered with Aflac to create a new membership benefit for Council 75 members

A reminder that open enrollment is ongoing for some Oregon AFSCME members interested in supplemental insurance policies being offered through Aflac. Aflac and Council 75 have collaborated in the past year or so to bring a series of special programs to AFSCME members.

Enrollment for this period has passed for some members, including state employees. Open enrollment continues for employees of the following:

  • All small cities, plus Eugene and Corvallis (as one group);

  • Members that are part of Oregon AFSCME's NLRB sector;

  • Oregon Child Care Providers Together (Local 132); and

  • City of Portland (through June 15).

Aflac group products — including Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital, Short Term Disability and Dental — are designed and negotiated by Oregon AFSCME for its members with guaranteed coverage for members available only for this open enrollment. Again, each Oregon AFSCME local has a specific open enrollment period; this link will take you to the AFSCME-Aflac site for more information. You can also contact Angela McCoy for more information at (503) 449-5993, or e-mail her.

For this initial enrollment only, Aflac is offering a group guarantee issue on its Critical Illness policy. The guarantee means that anyone is able to buy the Critical Illness coverage even with pre-existing conditions, meaning Aflac will insure both the healthy and the sick during this enrollment. Critical Illness includes a $10,000 lump sum payment for members and $5,000 for spouses. This special offer will end July 12.

Please note that AFSCME members must initiate contact; the agreement between Aflac and the union does not allow Aflac team members to contact union members directly without that initial contact from the member.
