At the 42nd annual AFSCME International Union Convention, Council 75’s own Stacy Chamberlain was elected to one of the thirty-three International Executive Board Vice-President seats. Chamberlain, who has been with the Council for 11 years and served as a Council Representative, and currently, Collective Bargaining Director replaces Ken Allen who is retiring from our union.
Chamberlain, who is a Portland native, was nominated by Local 88’s Percy Winters whose nomination speech touch on her skills and leadership qualities for the position. Chamberlain, campaigned all over the Northwest Region prior to the vote, and it showed in her strong support across the board from councils in Washington, Alaska, and Montana. However, her core support was, of course, Council 75. Every day, members wore her button and hit the pavement making sure that Council 75 would have a voice on the highest governing body of our International Union.
When asked what it meant to her, Chamberlain had this to say, “I was incredibly humbled and honored by the nomination and the support from our Oregon AFSCME members. I am very excited for this role and look forward to representing our great region, state, and members at the International Board. I am hoping to bring a fresh perspective and a strong voice to the discussions.” Our members know she will.
