Mary Botkin began working for Oregon AFSCME in 1984 when Council 75 took on the challenge of bringing the employees of the (then) Oregon Health Sciences University into the AFSCME fold. When that campaign ended successfully, she served as one of Local 328’s original staff representatives until shifting into the Political Coordinator position in 1986. Botkin has been active in both the Oregon and national Democratic Party over the years and served a stint as the national Democrat Women’s Caucus Chair.
Botkin has one married son and lives in Southeast Portland with her husband, Mike Botkin.
