The Eugene AFSCME office
served as the backdrop recently for the Patriot Majority's "Stop The Greed
Agenda" national bus tour. As outlined on their website, the Patriot Majority is a progressive political alliance
"pursuing a long-term program to economically empower all Americans."
"The basic storyline is that
Patriot Majority is doing a national bus tour promoting a conversation about
the Koch brothers agenda and others and the $400 million they are spending this
election cycle," says Council 75 Staff Representative Rick Henson. "They pulled
their bus into our Eugene AFSCME office here and held a press conference with
two of our local TV stations, and it got some play and generated some
discussion."
In contrast to the Koch
brothers and their ilk, Patriot Majority in turn hypes its "Action Plan" aimed
at creating and protecting opportunities for all Americans, making the U.S.
stronger at home and across the world. Points of the plan include protecting
voting rights, investing in America's public education system, updating
infrastructure, energy independence and so on. You can view the 10-point plan
in its entirety here.
"They aren't household
names, but mega-billionaires like the oil tycoon Koch brothers are using dozens
of political front groups to spend millions of dollars and take away your jobs,
your rights and your safety," Patriot Majority spokesperson Sid Voorakkara told
the Eugene media. "We call it 'The Greed Agenda,' and the details are worse
than you could imagine, especially for public employees."
KEZI-TV,
Channel 9 in Eugene, was one of the outlets covering the event.
