The Oregon AFL-CIO Young
Emerging Labor Leaders (YELL) is holding itsthird annual conference on Sunday, Sept. 30, to mobilize younger union
members to become leaders and activists for social change within their unions
and communities atlarge.
YELL provides networking
opportunities and resources for young unionmembers to engage in social gatherings, conferences and events. It is
unabashedly patterned after AFSCME's "Next Wave" program, which originated
within Council 75.
"YELL sisters and brothers
work to build lasting laborsolidarity,
advance issues of social justice, and find more inclusive waysto engage the current and future generations in the
labor movement," says Oregon AFSCME Staff Representative Jaimie Sorenson, who
has been active in YELL since its inception.
"This is a great opportunity
to learn more about YELL, gain skills you canuse in your union and meet other younger leaders."
