It's a new year for everyone, of course, and January 2010 brings possible new health care coverages for AFSCME-represented stat

The July 2010 PEBB Newsletter is now available. PEBB, the Public Employee Benefits Board, administers health care coverage for all AFSCME-represented state employees and members of Local 328 at OHSU. Longtime Council 75 Staff Representative Diane Lovell is also a longtime PEBB Board of Directors member, so AFSCME has first-hand input when it comes to PEBB.

The July edition of the PEBB newsletter launches a multi-month PEBB discussion with its members on the issue of health care quality and costs. PEBB is moving to evidence-based procedures whenever possible. Two areas where evidence suggests health care may be overused are sleep studies and certain medical imaging — chiefly MRI, CT and PET scans. Starting in 2011, PEBB is raising the co-pay for such procedures to $100. You can read the details in the newsletter.

You can download a PDF version of the newsletter attached to this article, or view the newsletter online at the PEBB website.
