If you receive your health care benefits through PEBB, now through Oct. 31 is the open enrollment period, which is the time to make your plan options for calendar year 2016.
You should have already received a mailing from PEBB regarding open enrollment. If you have not received the mailing, you should contact PEBB immediately at (503) 373-1102 or online at inquiries.pebb@state.or.us.
The Oregon PEBB website is a great source of information. The site includes three videos that explain the range of benefits available, health plan choices and choosing the plan that’s right for you. This link will take you to the videos.
There are a series of other tools on the website, including a deduction estimator. Additionally, attached to this article is a full 15-page listing of PEBB premium rates.
When considering your enrollment options for 2016, you should keep in mind that the most expensive plans are not necessarily the best option for each person or family. Some of the most expensive plans have higher deductibles than less expensive plans, for example.
“People should look close and hard at all of the plan options and make sure to choose the one best for your particular circumstances,” says Council 75 Collective Bargaining Director Stacy Chamberlain, who is our union’s representative on the PEBB Board of Directors.
Chamberlain notes that for some employees enrolled in the Health Engagement Model (HEM), the monthly rebate for HEM participation can end up paying the 1 percent employee portion of the 99/1 plans, giving you in essence 100 percent paid health care.
“Everyone needs to take some initiative and figure out what’s best for them,” said Chamberlain.
